OHIO NEWS - North Royalton Prohibits Smoking on All City-Owned Property

North Royalton, a Cleveland suburb, has prohibited outdoor smoking on public property. The restrictions explicitly cover soccer fields, parks, ball fields, and parking lots. The law was passed on Tuesday night, and makes smoking on city-owned grounds a minor misdemeanor with a fine of $10 for first-time violators. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $150.

Mayor Robert Stefanik introduced the legislation after hearing from baseball boosters who were tired of people lighting up in the stands. Furthermore, cigarette butt litter had become a problem. The law forbids designated smoking areas where baseball, softball or soccer are the sole activities.
