
Faculty BiosHoward Katz
From 1998 to 2004, Professor Katz served as Director of Strategic Planning and Policy for the Cuyahoga County (Ohio) Treasurer’s office where he oversaw a half-billion dollar fixed-income investment portfolio and insured the implementation of the treasurer’s reform agenda. He designed a linked-deposit program that provides residential loans for first-ring suburbs which won the U.S. EPA 2003 Award for Smart Growth Achievement. Earlier in his career, Professor Katz was chief counsel to the Cleveland City Council. Professor Katz has hosted public affairs shows on the radio, and has spoken on the topic of suburban revitalization at the annual meetings of the American Planning Association, the American Collegiate Schools of Planning, and the Government Finance Officers Association. In 2003 he was awarded a Knight Foundation Fellowship in Community Building, and he is a member of the Congress for the New Urbanism. Professor Katz will be teaching Torts and Property.
