1975

Thomas J. Bonasera of Buckingham Doolittle & Burroughs has been elected to the Ohio State Bar Association’s Council of Delegates for District 7, which is comprised of Franklin County.

1979

Ben L. Pfefferle III has been named for outstanding practice in his field, natural resources & environment, by Chambers, USA. This ranking is based on over 14,000 interviews with in house and outside counsel across the country.

Kathleen M. Trafford has been named one of Ohio's leading commercial litigation attorneys by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business. The rankings come as a result of a year-long survey effort to obtain a consistent market view of firms and attorneys who are considered leaders in their respective fields.

1980

Patrick A. Devine has been elected to serve as president to the board of directors for the Association of the Developmentally Disabled (ADD). Devine has assisted the organization since 2001, serving on the board in roles as secretary and vice president.

Philip J. Fulton has been appointed by Governor Strickland to the newly established Board of Directors for the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC). Fulton is the only lawyer appointed to the 11- member BWC board. The independent, external board of directors will serve as the primary fiduciary entity of BWC funds and be held accountable for the bureau's operations. Fulton’s Columbus-based law office, Philip J. Fulton Law Office, represents victims of workplace injuries in matters of workers' compensation and social security disability. He has been an adjunct professor at Capital, teaching workers' compensation law. He has received several recognitions for his legal work, including the Workers' Compensation Outstanding Service Award from the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers in 2005.

1981

Douglas J. Haynes has joined the National Arbitration Forum's national panel of independent and neutral arbitrators and mediators. He is a partner at Haynes & Haynes, LLC.

1983

Richard A. Dove has been named assistant administrative director of the Supreme Court of Ohio. In his new role, Dove will assist in the day-to-day management of the Court and direct special projects and initiatives as assigned. Dove has been with the Court since 1989 in a number of key positions, most recently serving as the director of Attorney Services. He is a former judicial law clerk at the 10th District Court of Appeals (Franklin County) and attorney for the Legislative Service Commission.

Joseph M. Reidy has been recognized for excellence in his field, natural resources & environment, by Chambers, USA. It ranks individual attorneys and firms according to their market reputation, rather than size or revenue.

Jura Zibas has been appointed President of the Clear Springs project, an 18,000 acre development.

Jeffrey D. Fish was named President of Collaborative Divorce Professionals, Inc., a non-profit organization comprising Central Ohio attorneys dedicated to changing the landscape for divorcing couples.

Susan E. Petersen has been chosen to lead the state-wide Ohio Women's Bar Association. Susan also was named to the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and was selected as one of Ohio Super Lawyer's Rising Stars.

1993

Mark W. Jump has been named a "Rising Star" attorney for 2007 by Ohio Super Lawyers magazine. The nomination came from his peers and criteria include attorneys age 40 or younger or who have been in practice 10 years or less.

1994

Thomas L. Hart has joined Wiles, Boyle, Burkholder & Bringardner Co., LPA as an attorney specializing in real estate law. He comes to this new position from Dominion Homes, Inc. where he was corporate officer and counsel.

The rankings come as a result of a yearlong survey effort to obtain a consistent market view of firms and attorneys who are considered leaders in their respective fields.

Ann L. Wehener has been elected President of the new Board of Directors of the Junior League of Akron for the 2007- 2008 term. She is currently an attorney at Brennan, Manna and Diamond.

1995

Sherri A. Stephen has been appointed to the U.S. Attorney's office in Allentown, PA. She had most recently spent four years with the Justice Department's Criminal Division in Washington, DC.

Lt. Christopher R. Shrank, USN was awarded the Bronze Star for service in Iraq, training the Iraqi National Police.

Sandra R. McIntosh has been named a 2007 Rising Star, rated with significant jury trial and appellate oral argument experience. Sandra participated in the Columbus Bar Barrister Leadership program.

Gabriel J. Roehrenbeck has been named a "Rising Star" attorney for 2007 by Ohio Super Lawyers magazine. The nomination came from his peers and criteria include attorneys age 40 or younger or who have been in practice 10 years or less.

2005

Jennifer A. Adair was recognized by the Columbus Bar's 'Helping Hands' column for being a coordinator for the Columbus Bar Summer Leadership Intern Program, coach of the Centennial High School Mock Trial Team, Board Trustee and Secretary of the Northwest Civic Association, and many other community programs.

David J. Barthel is currently a law clerk to Judge Richard Smoak, United States District Judge, Northern District of Florida, Panama City, FL. He was just offered and accepted a position as law clerk to Judge Richard Griffin, United States Circuit Judge, Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.  His clerkship with Judge Griffin will begin in August 2008.

Rebecca L. Hussey is one of over 30 graduates of the first year of the Columbus Bar Leadership Academy.

2006

Mellissia Fuhrmann has accepted a law clerk position in the Crime Victims Services Section of Attorney General Marc Dann's Office. Also, Fuhrmann is one of over 30 graduates of the first year of the Columbus Bar Leadership Academy.

Bernadette B. Laughlin was recognized by the Columbus Bar's 'Helping Hands' column for organizing a food drive for Mid-Ohio Foodbank, while she was the Community Service Director for Capital University Law School's Law Review. She has volunteered time in support of children's programs and Westerville school levies. Also, Laughlin is one of over 30 graduates of the first year of the Columbus Bar Leadership Academy.

Matt A. Zenko has participated in the "Just Take Two" Initiative, a joint project of Southeastern Ohio Legal Services and The Legal Aid Society of Columbus. He provides Pro Bono representation in two tax cases per year involving tax controversy between the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the taxpayer(s).

2007

Richard R. Parsons has accepted an invitation to join the firm of Kravitz, Brown & Dortch beginning November 2007. Parsons was a member of the Capital University Law Review and successfully participated in the First Year Moot Court Competition.

In Memoriam

Edgar L. Lindley, L'53, 85 of Worthington, OH passed away on Aug. 6. Edgar was a 1953 graduate of Capital University Law School and after serving the State of Ohio Department of Taxation as Tax Commissioner, he joined the firm of Bricker & Eckler in 1983, where he practiced law until his retirement in 1994. In 2005 he was inducted into the Ohio State Tax Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions to the field.

Judge Lawrence Jones, L'69, died suddenly on July 14, while running his daily work out. He was 67 and living in Hollister, and was greatly respected and admired by colleagues and family.

Professor Max Kravitz, L'73, popular legal educator and renowned criminal defense attorney, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12 [ More ]

Francis A. Allen, H'88, a leading legal educator and thinker, died April 6 at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Allen taught criminal law for over 40 years and was a principal architect of the provision of legal counsel to indigent defendants, both through his scholarly writings and his chairmanship of the Attorney General's Commission on Poverty and the Administration of Federal Criminal Justice, which led to the Criminal Justice Act of 1964 and the Bail Reform Act of 1966.

Jason Eric Cohen, L’93, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2007, from melanoma. He was 38 and resided in Owings Mills, Maryland.
