From the Director of Minority ADR Initiatives, Professor Floyd Weatherspoon

The 4th National Conference for Minority Professionals in Alternative Dispute Resolution (the Institute) is the eighth ADR program for minority professionals sponsored by Capital University Law School. Now building upon the success of four conferences and three prior Training Institutes, our mission is to promote opportunities and eliminate barriers for minority ADR professionals by offering affordable, high-quality training to expand skills in negotiation, mediation, facilitation and arbitration; to provide greater access to the ADR marketplace; and to prepare for advancement within the field of dispute resolution and conflict management.

This year’s Institute provides training for a range of skill levels and topics for ADR professionals. For those who are new to ADR, basic mediation offers the beginner an introduction to the field, including core skills training from which higher level competencies are built. We continue to offer arbitrator training for those interested in resolving disputes within the financial industry. For those who are highly experienced, we offer a course that provides opportunities to become involved in mediating employment discrimination disputes.

This year’s Institute also addresses the growing use of ADR in the community by offering training in facilitating community engagement processes; truancy prevention; and a unique training to improve professional services and better assist clients from diverse socio-economic backgrounds in managing conflict. We hope you will find something that addresses your area of interest.

Professor of Law and Director of Minority ADR Initiatives
