In 2008, the National Center for Adoption Law & Policy will celebrate its tenth anniversary. We plan to tie this milestone to our annual events and are also planning a few special events just for the occasion.
A preview of the year includes: a kick-off NCALP anniversary celebration in January, the National Moot Court Competition in Child Welfare & Adoption Law and Wells Symposium in March, Forever Home Adoption Celebration in May, the Summer Adoption Law Institute in August, and National Adoption Day 2008 in November.
In addition to our planned events, three major NCALP projects will enter exciting new phases:
· The Adoption LawSite, which provides free child welfare/adoption law information for all 50 states, will be upgraded to a new look (and a new name!) with better, user-friendly search functionalities and additional modules on specific adoption and child welfare-related topics;
· The Ohio Child Protection Law Reform Initiative will officially launch the Alternative Response Pilot with 10 Ohio Counties (click here for information on the Pilot); and
· The Adoption Academy will offer a new video-on-demand program via the internet so that more prospective adoptive families can learn about the adoption process from a reliable and unbiased source.
It is going to be a busy year for NCALP! We are excited to share our Ten-Year Anniversary events with you, so look for more Ten-Year Anniversary news over the next twelve months. |

White House Invitation November 16, 2007 Roundtable discussion: Exploring issues that may delay permanency for children in foster care
The Center was invited to participate in a roundtable discussion and reception at the White House in honor and celebration of National Adoption Day 2007. President George W. Bush and Mrs. Bush welcomed honored guests, including members of Congress and representatives of a number of prominent national child welfare organizations.
Prior to the White House reception, Professor Angela Upchurch participated in the White House Compassion in Action Roundtable. “The White House Faith-Based and Community Initiatives Roundtable brought many diverse organizations together in a spirit of collaboration to address the need for permanency for children in the foster care system. Much of NCALP’s efforts have been focused on raising public awareness of the plight of children who ‘age out’ of the foster care system without a permanent loving adoptive home,” said Professor Upchurch. “It was exciting to see this very important issue receive national attention.” |
