The Adoption Academy Spring 2008 Program Information
The Adoption Academy, presented by The National Center for Adoption Law & Policy and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, helps take the mystery out of the adoption process. This twelve week series offers prospective adoptive parents educational programs from an objective source. Our goal is to bring information together in a comprehensive and sensitive manner to help prospective parents make informed choices. The Academy has three tracks: · The Core Track examines issues all prospective adoptive parents need to address. · The Domestic Track presents material for those interested in adopting children in the United States. · The International Track covers material for participants who wish to adopt children from abroad. Simulcast: With generous support from Abbott Nutrition and its family of brands, including Similac and Ensure, the Adoption Academy is being presented to audiences throughout Ohio. Each Academy class will be simulcast via webcast from our classrooms at Nationwide Children’s Hospital to audiences hosted by the Adoption Network of Cleveland, Akron Children’s Hospital and Toledo Children’s Hospital. Audience members at these locations will receive all Adoption Academy program materials, view each presentation, and even be able to participate in discussion with our presenters and the Columbus audience. We would like to thank Abbott Nutrition and our host partners for making this webcast project possible. The Core Track Begins September 8, 2008 and runs on Monday evenings for 4 weeks as follows: September 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 7-9 p.m. · Week 1 Introduction to Adoption Overview of Adoption · Week 2 The Nuts and Bolts of Homestudy · Week 3 Affording your Adoption · Week 4 Emotional and Social Implications of Adoption Parent and Adoptee Panel Back to Top The Domestic Track Begins October 6, 2008 and runs on Monday evenings for 4 weeks as follows: October 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 7-9 p.m. · Week 1 The Step-by-Step Process of Domestic Adoption Finding the Adoptive Child · Week 2 The Spectrum of Openness in Adoption Cultural Considerations · Week 3 Preparing for Child's Arrival: Medical and Behavioral Aspects of Adoption · Week 4 Adoption of Waiting Children & Children with Special Needs: Considerations and Resources for Families Back to Top The International Track Begins November 3, 2008 and runs on Monday evenings for 4 weeks as follows: November 3, 10, 17, and 24 from 7-9 p.m. · Week 1 The Step-by-Step Process of International Adoption · Week 2 Dealing with Governments: Ours and Others · Week 3 Medical and Health Care Needs of the Child · Week 4 Transcultural Adoption Considerations Parent and Adoptee Panel Back to Top All sessions are held at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Education Center at 700 Children's Drive. We recommend that all participants attend the Core Track as it lays the foundation for the more specialized Domestic and International series.
