CLEAN INDOOR AIR NEWS - Fines Issued for Violation of Statewide Smokefree Law

September 5 , 2007

Twenty-nine Ohio businesses recently received citations for violation of the statewide clean indoor air law. The recent round of fines were the first issued since enforcement of the law began in May.  The majority of the businesses fined were bars and restaurants, while eight were veterans halls.  The $100 fines issued were for second violations.  Previous violations had resulted in warning letters.  Third, fourth and fifth violations will bring fines of $500, $1,000 and $2,500, respectively.  Since May, the state has received more than 11,000 complaints of smoking violations.
