From the Executive Director

Thanks to everyone who helped to make our first annual conference a success.  We were thrilled to host 140 public health professionals, policymakers, tobacco control advocates, and attorneys for a full day of discussion and debate about a wide range of tobacco policy issues.

Our keynote speaker was Doug Blanke, director of the Tobacco Law Center at the William Mitchell College of Law, who gave an entertaining and informative presentation entitled "Ten Cases to Watch: A Report from the Courts."  The top two cases on Blanke's list were the ongoing U.S. Justice Department racketeering lawsuit against the cigarette industry and the long-running Engle v. Liggett Group class action lawsuit which resulted in a since-vacated $145 billion judgment against the defendants.
