Capital Paralegal Student Wins Scholarship

Capital University paralegal student Amjed B. Qamar of Dublin, Ohio, has been named the winner of a $3,500 scholarship by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) and West Group.

Qamar is a member of the Paralegal Association of Central Ohio. She will graduate from Capital’s post-baccalaureate program in August 2002, and will work as a paralegal in the immigration department at the Columbus law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour & Pease. She played a major role in organizing the first Paralegal Student Organization at the law school, and sits on the program’s advisory board as a representative of her class. Qamar holds dual bachelor’s degrees in English and psychology from The Ohio State University.

To take part in the scholarship competition, each applicant wrote an essay on the topic: “Paralegal Education: The Changes in the Last 20 Years and Recommendations for the Future.” The winners’ essays will be published in the June/July issue of the National Paralegal Reporter. West Group underwrote the expenses of the two winners to attend the NFPA Spring Convention in Indianapolis, and presented each with a plaque.
