The first annual National Pro Bono Celebration is a coordinated national effort to showcase the great difference that pro bono lawyers make to the nation, its system of justice, its communities and, most of all, to the clients they serve. The Celebration is sponsored by the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service.
Capital University Law School will kick off the National Pro Bono Celebration on Monday, October 26 in Room 229, at 12:15pm. Attorneys Annalisa Van Kirk and Ashley Saltzman, L’07 from the Legal Aid Society of Columbus will discuss the role of pro bono service and public interest work. Mary Nienaber, L’09, current volunteer pro bono coordinator for Capital, will share opportunities to provide pro bono service and also provide her perspective as both a former LASC law clerk and Public Interest fellow and auction chair.
Throughout the week, faculty will share perspectives on pro bono work in specific practice areas. Information will also be available in the back lobby and in the display case near Room 229 about current students and alumni who have been recognized for pro bono service to the community.
On Thursday, October 29, 2009, at 5:10pm in Room A121, we will view the video, Pro Bono Publico: In the Spirit of Public Service, a production of the Ohio Justice & Policy Center. A facilitated conversation will take place immediately following.
On Friday, October 30, the Columbus Bar Foundation will recognize two Capital University Law School alumni for outstanding pro bono service: LeeAnn Massucci, L’02 will receive an award for pro bono service to an individual and Jim Abrams, L’04 will receive the pro bono service award given by the Legal Aid Society of Columbus.
