Shawn Beem to Serve on NALP Board

Shawn M. Beem, Associate Director for Career Services at Capital University Law School, was elected to serve as a 2009-2011 Director on the Board of NALP — the Association for Legal Career Professionals — during the 2009 annual meeting of that association on April 3, 2009, in Washington, DC.
Founded in 1971 as the National Association for Law Placement, Inc, NALP is a nonprofit association dedicated to facilitating legal career
counseling and planning, recruitment and retention, and the professional development of law students and lawyers. Today the membership of NALP
spans three continents and includes virtually every ABA-accredited law school and more than 800 of the largest law firms and legal employers. Within those
organizations, NALP’s member representatives head law school career development offices and law firm recruiting and professional development
departments.
Shawn Beem is a graduate of the University of Dayton and Capital University Law School. In law school, he was a law clerk for the Office of Disciplinary Counsel of the Supreme Court of Ohio and an extern to the Ohio CASA/GAL Association. He also served as the Public Interest Law Coordinator for Capital and, in addition, was Co-President of the Bisexual, Gay & Lesbian Law Association. Prior to law school, Beem spent a year studying at the Université de Strasbourg in France, during which he was an English lecturer at the Collège Episcopale St. Etienne. He is a Leopold Schepp Foundation Scholar. Beem has served as Chair of the NALP GLBT Section, and has written for NALP publications and presented at conferences of NALP and at seminars presented by the Columbus Bar Association. In addition to his membership in NALP, he is a member of the Columbus Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the National LGBT Bar Association, and the Ohio Law Placement Consortium.
