Distelhorst Appointed to Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on Professionalism

Capital University Law School Professor Michael Distelhorst, ’71, L’76, is one of three new members appointed by The Supreme Court of Ohio to the Commission on Professionalism.

The commission promotes professionalism among attorneys admitted to practice law in Ohio and aspires to advance the highest standards of integrity and honor among members of the legal profession. The commission created and administers the Supreme Court’s Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring program, which pairs experienced, professional lawyers with new lawyers to provide guidance and share practical knowledge and skills during the transition from law student to legal practitioner.

The commission’s 15-member roster includes five judges, six lawyers, two law school administrators or faculty and two persons not admitted to practice law in any state. Commissioners are appointed for three-year terms and may not serve more than two consecutive full terms.

Professor Distelhorst teaches contracts and commercial law at the Law School and he previously taught business ethics and leadership for Capital University’s School of Management. His special areas of interest are business and professional ethics and he frequently presents on the topics to business groups, members of the bar and judges associations. Before joining the Capital faculty in 1980, he taught accounting and finance and practiced both accounting and law. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Association and the Ohio State and Columbus Bar Foundations. He is a 1976 graduate of Capital University Law School and he also received his undergraduate degree from Capital in 1971.
