The Capital University Law School Student Bar Association (SBA) is meeting a challenge to help address homelessness in the Columbus, Ohio area. Charged with alleviating local homeless issues by the American Bar Association (ABA), the SBA has begun a series of efforts to combat homelessness beginning with a $1,070 donation to the Homeless Families Foundation. The donation, collected by selling raffle tickets, was given in memory of former Capital University President and Law School Dean Josiah H. Blackmore, who passed away Sept. 26, 2007.

“This is going to be an ongoing effort to have students working with the Foundation. We would like it to be a long-term relationship,” said Tony Eufinger, SBA president. Other projects planned throughout the year include educating students about pro bono opportunities at the Homeless Families Foundation and collecting toiletries and toys for the children.

John Ridge, SBA evening vice president, organized the donation drive and continues to shepherd the project by coordinating student volunteers who work at the Homeless Families Foundation.

Contributing to the SBA’s efforts, the Women’s Law Association donated school supplies from a drive held during the fall semester.

The Student Bar Association is the student government organization of the law school. All students are members of the SBA. The SBA is governed by an Executive Board and representatives from each class in the full-time and part-time divisions. The SBA is an active partner in governing the school and setting school policy.
