Law School Announces Goal to Create Endowed Faculty Positions in Honor of Blackmore & Sullivan

April, 2006

“Since becoming Dean in July 2004, I have visited with hundreds of alumni and non-alumni who are leaders in the Ohio legal and business community. During these visits, more often than not, the very first question I am asked is “How is Professor….?” Most of the time, either Josiah Blackmore or John Sullivan are the subject of their inquiry,” says Dean Jack Guttenberg. “The expression of admiration, appreciation and respect for Professors Blackmore and Sullivan is a consistent theme that I hear repeatedly.”

The time has come to honor Professors Blackmore and Sullivan for their innumerable contributions to Capital University Law School and to the legal profession as a whole with the establishment of two endowed positions named in their honor. Capital University Law School is proud to announce the goal of establishing The Professor Emeritus & Dean Josiah H. Blackmore II Chair in Legal Education and The Professor Emeritus John E. Sullivan Professor of Law and seeks your support to achieve these endowed positions.

By establishing a permanently endowed academic chair in honor of Professor Blackmore and a permanently endowed professorship in honor of Professor Sullivan, the Law School will be able to strengthen its faculty by recruiting and retaining professors who are dedicated to legal education.

The Blackmore Chair funding committee is being led J. Miles Gibson, L’78 and includes: Jeffrey A. Grossman, L’72, James. K. Hunter, III, L’73, Teresa L. Liston, L’81, Barbara J. Lucks, L’76, Robert J. Weiler, L’83, and Randolph C. Wiseman, L’74. A fully-funded academic chair can be established with gifts, multi-year pledges, and/or deferred planned gifts totaling $1.5 million.

The Sullivan Professorship funding committee is co-chaired by David H. Tannenbaum, L’66 and Fred P. Zimmer, L’58. Additional committee members are welcome. A fully-funded professorship can be established with gifts, multi-year pledges, and/or deferred planned gifts totaling $500,000.

If you have any questions, or would like to make a gift in honor of Professors Blackmore or Sullivan, contact John Strick, director of Alumni Relations and Development at (614) 236-6603.
