Adjunct Professor David S. Bloomfield

David S. Bloomfield is the recipient of the 2005-2006 Adjunct of the Year Award for Capital University Law School. Instituted to highlight the efforts and quality of the Law School’s excellent adjunct teachers, this award honors Bloomfield for his exceptional teaching and his dedication to his students.

Bloomfield has been teaching at Capital since the mid-1970s in the areas of tax, ethics, and for the last twelve years, he has been teaching immigration and naturalization law.

Dennis Hirsch, associate dean for faculty and student development, said, “Bloomfield exemplifies everything that Capital looks for in its professors – commitment to students, depth of knowledge in the subject matter, creativity and rigor in teaching, and the ability to engage the students in his classroom.”

“I enjoy interacting with students and find that I always learn something new when I teach. It also helps to refresh my knowledge of the subject matter,” Bloomfield said. “I enjoy what I do and I like having someone to talk to about the subject matter.”

Among students’ comments was one of the highest compliments a teacher can receive. One of Bloomfield’s students wrote, “Professor Bloomfield made me want to practice immigration law.”

Bloomfield is a partner with the firm of Bloomfield & Kempf, where he focuses his practice in the areas of immigration and nationality law, social security disability and professional ethics. He is a recipient of the U.S. Department of Justice Public Service Award for Immigration pro bono work and is a fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation and Columbus Bar Foundation.

Bloomfield has published articles in numerous legal publications, including the Capital University Law Review. He was a contributing reviewer for the American Bar Association’s project regarding the establishment of professional codes for the newly democratic nations of the former Soviet Bloc. Recently, he contributed to the Columbus Bar Association publication Life and the Law, Wit and Wisdom from Columbus Bar Association Lawyers.
