
Bank Receives CBA’s Pro Bono AwardOctober 20, 2006
Danny W. Bank, staff attorney in the Capital University Law School Legal Clinic, is a recipient of the 2006 Columbus Bar Pro Bono Award for superior legal work on behalf of the poor. The award was presented to Bank by the Columbus Bar Association (CBA) and the Columbus Bar Foundation (CBF) at the CBF’s Annual meeting on Fri., Oct. 20. Bank, L’90, created the Divorce Pro Se Assistance Project. This project helps clients with pending pro se actions in domestic relations court. On Tuesday afternoons, cases are referred by the court to Bank, his legal interns and other attorneys. They help the litigants correct their pleadings and other documentation so that they can proceed to a final hearing. Attorney Bank joined Capital University Law School in 1990. As a clinic staff attorney, his other responsibilities include overseeing and supervising the work of students in the General Litigation Clinic and the Child Custody Unit of the Family Advocacy Clinic. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1990, the New York Bar in 1992, the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in 1992 and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in 1994. Mr. Bank is a member of the American, Ohio and Columbus Bar Associations, and he serves on the Delivery of Legal Services Committee of the Columbus Bar Association. A number of other Capital University Law School alumni also were honored for their public service. Magistrate Kathleen E. Graham, L’82; Magistrate Mark A. Hummer, L’86; and Magistrate Dennis R. Kimball, L’82 were recognized for their assistance and support of the Pro Bono Tenants’ Advocacy Project. The Capital Law School Legal Clinic also was recognized for providing volunteers for this project. Thomas G. Shanahan, L’82; Gregory W. Swart, L’80; Anne M. Valentine, L’81 and Phillip A. Waid, L’73 were honored as the original volunteers for The Homeless Project. This is 17 to 18 years of public service! Amy Bostic, L’88, Jeff Cabot, L’87; Lisa L. Eschleman, L’87, Paul S. Kormanik, L’79; William Scott Simon, L’87; and Clark W. Wideman, L’75 were recognized for 15 years of service with The Homeless Project Attorneys being recognized for 10 years of service with The Homeless Project include: Angela L. Bosworth, L’91; Michael W. Dennis, L’95; Susan Kay Nagel, L’93; Seth Reichenbach, L’93; Philip H. Sheridan Jr., L’73; James Southern, L’93; and J. Ellen Wentzel, L’95.
