2006 New Student Orientation Begins Thur., Aug. 17

August 7, 2006

The 2006 New Student Orientation program begins on Thursday, August 17 with the Opening Convocation and Gavel Ceremony at The Capital Center on the main campus of Capital University in Bexley. Orientation continues at Capital University Law School on Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19. New Student Orientation is mandatory for all entering students. Please note that the Opening Convocation and Gavel Ceremony is at the main campus in Bexley; the remainder of the Orientation program will take place at the downtown Columbus, law school building (303 E. Broad Street).

Registration for the Opening Convocation begins at 5:30 pm in the lobby of The Capital Center (Mound Street entrance). As a way of instilling a greater sense of ethics and professionalism in our new students, Capital continues its tradition of the "Presentation of the Gavels" during the Opening Convocation where each student receives a gavel from a university dignitary.

Family and guests are welcome to attend the Opening Convocation. Also, we particularly encourage spouses, family members and significant others to attend orientation on Saturday, August 19 when Dr. Terry Thompson, Director of Counseling Services for the Law School, facilitates a panel discussion of parents and spouses on the "joys and concerns" of living with a law student. The panel discuss will last from 10:00 am to 11:30 am in the Huntington Student Commons. Orientation ends on Saturday afternoon with a block party including a student organization street fair, live music and food for the entire law school community.
