Law School Welcomes New ClassAugust 18, 2006
Capital University Law School welcomed its newest class Thurs., Aug. 17, at the Capital Center on the main campus of Capital University. About 250 students attended the convocation ceremony with their family and friends. Justice Terrence O’Donnell of the Supreme Court of Ohio was the featured speaker. His presentation, Thoughts Upon Entering the Noble Profession, underscored the important roles lawyers have played throughout history and the future importance this generation of lawyers will have. Faculty and administration welcomed the students and were introduced to the incoming class. Additionally, each student was presented with a ceremonial gavel to reinforce the Law School’s ideals of professionalism, ethics and dignity. “This year’s class was selected from one of the largest applicant pools in the school’s history,” said Linda Mihely, assistant dean of admission and financial aid. “They represent a wealthy resource of diverse knowledge, experience, and interests.”
Mihely continued, “There are 250 students beginning at Capital University Law School this fall. These students represent 16 states and 88 undergraduate institutions. Women comprise 46% of the class, minorities make up 13% of the class and 11 students have graduate degrees.” Law School Dean Jack A. Guttenberg said, “It is a privilege to
be able to welcome this year’s class to Capital University Law School.
They comprise an academically strong and diverse group.”
