Tues., March 7, the African American Law Alumni Association (AALAA) at Capital University Law School, honored Patsy Thomas, L’94, with the David D. White Award at the annual David D. White reception. The event was co-sponsored by Kegler Brown Hill & Ritter. The award recognized Thomas for her contributions to and involvement in the Columbus community. Thomas has demonstrated her strong work ethic throughout her professional career. She is a founding member of the John Mercer Langston Bar Association, which is the Columbus affiliate chapter for the National Bar Association, a professional organization for African American lawyers. Thomas also chairs the Program Committee of the Columbus Area Salvation Army and serves on the boards of numerous local not-for-profit organizations. She is a member of Capital University’s Board of Trustees and is a member of Columbus City Council, chairing the Council’s Public Utilities Committee. The proceeds of the evening’s reception benefit the David D. White Endowed Scholarship Fund, which is the largest named scholarship fund benefiting Capital Univeristy Law School students. This year, four $2,000 scholarships have been awarded to African American students Thomas joined Kegler Brown Hill & Ritter in 2003. Her practice focuses on workers’ compensation matters and insurance liquidation. Prior to joining Kegler Brown Hill & Ritter, she served as an assistant attorney general in the workers’ compensation section of the Ohio attorney general’s office, and as an environmental prosecutor for six years in the City Attorney’s Office. This annual award commemorates the first African American graduate of
Capital University Law School, David D. White, L’31. Presented by
the African American Law Alumni Association, the award honors an individual
whose legal and civic accomplishments serve as a model for African American
students.
