Capital University Law School Professor Daniel T. Kobil, an expert on clemency, has published two opinion editorials in major newspapers this month. This editorial, entitled Governor should have mercy for the mentally ill, discusses the case of Gregory Thompson, a mentally disturbed man on Tennessee’s death row. [ Read Governor should have mercy for the mentally ill ] While both articles discuss the issue of clemency, the former article considers issues of clemency where guilt might be considered to be in doubt despite a jury’s verdict and the latter article discusses the propriety of executing the mentally ill. Professor Kobil teaches Constitutional Law, Torts, and Commercial Law
