Labor and Employment Law CLE, March 2

February 9, 2005

In celebration of its 10th Anniversary, the Capital University Law School Labor and Employment Law Association (LELA) will be offering a CLE program on “New Developments in Labor and Employment Law,” Wednesday, March 2, 2005, from 9:45 am – 4:00 pm. The CLE will be followed by a reception from 4:00 – 5:30 pm to recognize LELA’s charter members, past officers and past and current members. The program is open to all practicing attorneys and has been approved by the Ohio Commission on Continuing Legal Education for five (5) general CLE credits.

The cost to attend the CLE is $50 and the proceeds will help fund the Labor and Employment Law Scholarship. To register for the CLE or to RSVP for the reception, call (614) 236-6377, or register online. The registration deadline is February 25, 2005.

Darlene E. Chavers, L’87, a commissioner with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, will begin the CLE with “Enhancing Lawyering Skills to Mediate Employment Disputes.” Magistrate Michael C. McPhillips, L’94, of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, will speak on “Covenants Not to Compete.” The afternoon program will include sessions on “How Labor Law Impacts Even the Non-Union Employer” by Jaime T. Landrum, L’03, an attorney with Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur LLP; and “Trends in Sexual Harassment Laws” by Stephanie Bostos Demers, L’93, Senior Deputy Attorney General of the Civil Rights Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office

The 2004-2005 school year marks the 10-Year Anniversary of the Labor and Employment Law Association. It was founded by 15 Capital University Law School students in 1994.

“The Labor and Employment Law Association plays a prominent role in ensuring that Capital students are aware of current labor and employment law issues, externships, and the concentration certificate offered by Capital,” said Angela Wittman, president of LELA. “Through our annual programming, we provide powerful networking opportunities within this practice area.”
