
New Dean Takes Office at Capital University Law SchoolJune 30, 2004
Thursday, July 1, 2004, Jack A. Guttenberg takes office as the new dean of Capital University Law School. Guttenberg comes to Capital from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University, where he served as associate dean and professor. He taught there from 1980 until this year. His courses included criminal law, legal profession, trial advocacy, law practice management and pre-trial management. He also taught criminal procedure, criminal trial process and corrections law. From 1980 to 1985, he was coordinator of the Federal Post-Conviction Relief Clinic at Cleveland-Marshall. He was appointed associate dean in 1997. “I believe that Jack has the integrity, the academic credentials and the administrative leadership necessary to further develop our Law School into one of the leading programs in the country,” Capital University President Theodore Fredrickson said. “I am extremely honored and excited to be here.” Guttenberg said. “I think Capital has an incredibly proud history of providing access and opportunity to a legal education in Central Ohio. Everything I hope to accomplish will build on this history. It’s our goal to make Capital a regional and national leader in legal education.” Before he entered academia, Guttenberg was an assistant public defender in the Major Felonies Division in Ann Arbor, Michigan’s, Washtenaw County, and an associate at the firm Burgess and Burgess, in Detroit. He earned his undergraduate degree in sociology from the
University of Michigan and his juris doctorate, magna cum laude, from
Wayne State University School of Law in 1976. |
