Negotiation Training Available March, 2004

The Center for Dispute Resolution at Capital University
Law School will offer comprehensive mediation and negotiation training
March 8-12, 2004.
Class topics range from basic and higher-level mediation skills to negotiation
skills and succeeding in the business of mediation. Training offered are:

Intensive
Mediation; March 8-12, 2004; 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. This 40-hour
training provides individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary
to begin mediating. This one-week program includes basic mediation
training with several advanced mediation trainings to offer the beginning
mediator a comprehensive training experience. Register

Negotiation:
The Building Block of Dispute Resolution; March 8; 8:30 am to 5:00
pm. This one day training explores the many components of negotiation
theory (attitudes, styles, tactics and strategies), as well as the
sources of power and various techniques for dealing with power in
negotiations. This training is extremely beneficial in helping mediators
to better understand the negotiation dynamics that occur in mediation
and to better select techniques to overcome barriers to resolution.

Basic
Mediation; March 9-10, 2004; 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. This two day
mediation training teaches the basic skills used by an effective mediator.
Disciplinary in nature, it is useful for people with multiple backgrounds
and experience levels. Register

Becoming
a More Effective Mediator; March 11, 2004; 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
This is an advanced skills training in identifying issues, generating
alternatives and caucusing. Register

Succeeding
in the Business of Mediation; March 12, 2004; 8:30 am to 12:00
pm. This one-half day training will enhance a mediator’s ability
to prepare for and conduct a mediation process. Register

Mediation
Ethics; March 12, 2004; 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. This training explores
the interaction of various ethical guides within diverse mediation
contexts and engages participants in thoughtful discussions. Register

Three Capital University Law School faculty members provide these courses.
They are Scot Dewhirst, Co-Director
of the Center for Dispute Resolution; Roberta
Mitchell, Co-Director of the Center for Dispute Resolution; and Terry
Wheeler, Executive Director of the Center for Dispute Resolution.
Each of these courses is approved by the Supreme Court of Ohio for continuing
legal education (CLE) credits. Other continuing education credit may also
be available, please check registration pages for details.
In addition, some courses may qualify for pre-payment of registration
fees to employees of the state of Ohio from the Workforce Development
