Center for Dispute Resolution Hosts Forum on the Uniform Mediatin Act (UMA)

February 18, 2004

On January 26, 2004 the Center for Dispute Resolution hosted participants from across Ohio for the final informational forum on the Uniform Mediation Act (UMA). The forum was sponsored by the Ohio Community Mediation Association, Ohio Mediation Association, and Ohio Commission on Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management. Emily Haynes, who served as the Reporters' Coordinator during the creation of the Uniform Mediation Act, reviewed the provisions of the act and coordinated a question and answer session.

The Uniform Mediation Act (UMA) has been introduced in the Ohio legislature as House Bill No. 303 (see http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/bills.cfm?ID=125_HB_303.%20). This was the last of four regional forums to provide interested individuals with an opportunity to learn more about the legislation and its potential impact on mediations conducted in Ohio.
