School Students Celebrate Black History Month

To celebrate Black History Month, the Black Law Student
Association (BLSA) of Capital University Law School has planned a variety
of events.

Monday February 9, 2004, the celebration officially
begins with a kick-off event to be held in the Huntington Commons
at 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
Presented by the BLSA executive board, this event is for all Law School
students. It features Tanikka Henriquez as the MC and special guests
including interim dean Athornia Steele, director of student affairs
Torian Lee, and professors Shirley Mays and Floyd Weatherspoon.
Other guests scheduled to appear include Amir Clayton Powell, Jarrod
Skinner and past BLSA president Makeda Neal.

Also on Monday February 9, BLSA members are invited
to participate in the Red Cross blood drive. To accommodate schedules
and to prevent delays at the bloodmobile, no set time is scheduled
for BLSA members to donate.
The bloodmobile is scheduled to run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in room
572 of the Law School building. Contact Lindsay
Helman for details or to schedule a time to donate.

Tuesday, February 10, BLSA members are going to
the Arena Grand to see Barbershop 2, details to be determined.

Monday, February 16 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in room
572, the BLSA will present its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Image
Award to the 2004 recipient, Frederick
L. Ransier III. To attend the reception, RSVP by February 12,

Wednesday, February 18 at 5:00 pm, there will be
a lecture by Rameses Narmer Khenti Herusef of the Holy Zawadi Nation.
Herusef will speak on the principals of Ma’at and true justice
in room 572.

Friday, February 20 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, a series
of three to four movies will be shown in the Huntington Commons. The
movies include Eyes on the Prize: Brown vs. Board of Education,
Brown Sugar and Philadelphia.

Monday, February 23 will be immunity day for all
Capital University Law School students who have purchased a BLSA t-shirt.

Tuesday, February 24, the Food Taster begins at
5:30 pm and runs until 6:00 pm. The Food Taster features home-made
food from around the world, as well as the Little Sister Drummers
and special guest dancer Cassandra Clark. Contact Shontel
Walker for more information about the Food Taster.
In addition to these events, BLSA is organizing a panel discussion on
the subject of Brown v. the Board of Education. Watch for details
