October 19, 2004

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004–The Environmental Law Society at Capital University Law School will facilitate an election discussion on environmental issues from noon to 1:15 p.m. Friday, October 22, in Room 242 of Capital University Law School, located at 303 E. Broad St.

Case Western Reserve law professor Jonathon Adler will speak on Bush-Cheney environmental policy, and Roger Ballentine, founder and president of Green Strategies Inc., will present the Kerry-Edwards point of view. Each will speak for 20 minutes on the respective campaign’s environmental platform, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Adler is the former director of environmental studies for the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a Washington, D.C., environmental think tank focused on the development and promotion of free market approaches to environmental policy. He has written three books and many scholarly articles on the topic, along with articles published in such well-respected publications as Environmental Law, Supreme Court Economic Review, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.

Ballentine is the founder and president of Green Strategies Inc., a consulting firm specializing in energy and environmental matters for corporations, entrepreneurs, investors, associations, foundations, individuals, and non-profit organizations. Ballentine also formerly chaired the White House Climate Change Task Force and served as deputy assistant to the President for environmental initiatives during the Clinton administration.

The discussion is intended to provide an opportunity for students, faculty and the Columbus community to learn about national environmental issues and to put that knowledge to use during the upcoming election. The Capital University Environmental Law Society’s purpose is to raise awareness of environmental issues.
