
Donna Schoebel Appointed Director of Paralegal ProgramsJune 17, 2004 Donna J. Schoebel has been named the new Director of Paralegal Programs. She will be responsible for the Paralegal day evening programs, Legal Nurse Consultant program, Life Care Planner program and the Dayton Paralegal program. Previously, Schoebel served as the Associate Director of Graduate Law Programs under the direction of Mary Ming. Schoebel joined the Law School during the 2000 – 2001 school year when she set up the Paralegal and Legal Nurse Consultant programs in Dayton. Schoebel sees her current challenges as educating the legal and business communities about the non-lawyer professionals receiving their education at Capital. Paralegal, Life Care Planners and Legal Nurse Consultants are an indispensable part of the current legal and business team and Schoebel has been educating the market about effectively using non-lawyer professionals to enhance their bottom line. Schoebel is a regular speaker at subcommittees of the Columbus Bar Association (CBA) where she communicates the financial and professional advantages of employing paralegals, legal nurse consultants, and life care planners. Additionally, she’s writing an article about this topic for the business and legal community with Donna Prehm, a prominent paralegal in the Columbus legal community. Schoebel is a nurse paralegal possessing years of experience in medical-malpractice, medical product liability, health care law, and various other litigation involving medical issues. She received her certificate in paralegal studies at the University of Cincinnati, and in addition, has a B.S.N. from the College of Mount St. Joseph and an M.B.A. from Liberty University. Her nursing background is in critical care and emergency nursing, nursing supervision, and nursing education. Prior to her position with the Law School, Schoebel was the Nurse Paralegal for Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur, and an adjunct associate professor at the University of Cincinnati, where she created the Legal Nurse Consultant Professional Certificate Program and Bachelor of Science in Legal Nurse Consulting. She received the 1998 Celebration of Excellence Award from the Ohio Board of Regents Continuing Education Association Region IV for the creation of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Legal Nurse Consulting. Schoebel routinely presents at various nursing workshops and seminars, in addition to presenting at national paralegal and legal nurse consultant seminars and programs. She is a member of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants, American Alliance of Paralegals Inc., American Association for Paralegal Education, Greater Dayton Paralegal Association, National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Columbus Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and serves as a member of the American Bar Association site visitation team for the approval process of legal assistant/paralegal education programs.
