New Director of Career Services Appointed

Mary Ann WillisCapital University Law School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Ann Willis as the Director of Career Services. Ms. Willis comes to Capital with a wealth of experience. Most recently, she served as Program Director for the National Religious Partnership for the Environment, a nonprofit organization based in Amherst, Massachusetts.

A graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Law, Ms. Willis served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. Following law school, she clerked for the Hon. David A. Nelson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, after which she joined the Cincinnati law firm of Frost & Jacobs (now known as Frost Brown Todd) as an associate in the department of labor and employment law. Subsequently, Ms. Willis’ legal career took her to Washington, D.C. to the Legal Office of the Supreme Court of the United States, where she served as Staff Counsel and then Counsel to the Court.

Among other activities, Ms. Willis has served pro bono as a board member for a mental health center, a certified ombudsperson for a nursing home, a volunteer lawyer for the poor, and a group facilitator for individuals exploring vocational goals. In 1994, she received the Nicholas Longworth III Alumni Achievement Award for Distinguished Professional Service from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. In 1997, she was elected a Fellow of the Society for Values in Higher Education.

Ms. Willis is a member of the Ohio Bar and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. In addition, she is a registered nurse. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Wittenberg University, a nursing degree from the University of Cincinnati, and has pursued graduate studies at Wesley Theological Seminary and Hartford Seminary.

"Ms. Willis brings to Capital an impressive legal and administrative background," said Interim Dean Athornia Steele. "Her experience and knowledge will allow the Law School to continue its strong tradition of providing the highest levels of career counseling for students and alumni and recruitment services for employers."

Capital University Law School has traditionally had strong placement rates. For the Class of 2003, only about 4 percent were seeking employment nine months after graduation.
