Legal Clinic Receives Award for Pro Bono WorkDecember 4, 2003 The Capital University Law School Legal Clinic was awarded the Columbus Bar Foundation’s Outstanding Pro Bono Service Project Award for 2003. Danny Bank and Lorie McCaughan, legal clinic staff attorneys, were present to accept the award. The award was given based on the Clinic’s participation in the Columbus Bar Association’s Pro Bono Validation program. McCaughan and Bank alternately visit the Faith Mission Shelter twice a month to provide counseling, agency referrals and legal representation to the homeless. In addition, the Career Services Office at Capital University Law School coordinated the pro bono designation and Jenn Meyer, a Pro Bono volunteer, coordinated the student participants. The Legal Clinic previously won a Pro Bono award for preparing will-related documents for clients of the Columbus Aids Task Force. Gail Patrick, chair of the Columbus Bar Delivery of Legal Services committee, presented the awards at the annual meeting of the Columbus Bar Foundation held on November 7, 2003. Other award winners included James Southern, Outstanding Pro Bono Legal Service by an Individual; Jones Day, Outstanding Pro Bono Service by a Law Firm; and the Interfaith Legal Services, Outstanding Pro Bono Service by a Project.
