
Ohio Bar Honors Capital University Law ProfessorMay 14, 2002 Max Kravitz, professor of law at Capital University Law School, is one of two first-time recipients of a new award from the Ohio State Bar Association's Legal Education Committee that recognizes law professors for outstanding contributions to Ohio law and to the Ohio bar. The award will be presented at a reception for Capital law alumni at 6 p.m., May 16, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 350 N. High St. Kravitz has been on the faculty at Capital Law School since 1976. A criminal defense attorney, he teaches in the area of criminal law, criminal procedure and advance criminal procedure. Gov. George Voinovich appointed him to the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission, which is responsible for drafting legislation to reform Ohio's felony, misdemeanor and juvenile sentencing laws. Kravitz has provided advice, consultation and testimony to Ohio House and Senate judiciary committees on issues pertaining to juvenile sentencing; post-conviction reform; acceleration of death penalty appeals and felony sentencing legislation. Kravitz serves on the Supreme Court of Ohio's Commission on Professionalism and is a fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. He is the former chair of the Criminal Justice Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association and former president of the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Kravitz's article, "Ohio's Administrative License Suspension: A Double Jeopardy and Due Process Analysis," published in the Akron Law Review in 1996, has been cited by the Minnesota Court of Appeals, the Ohio Court of Appeals Second District and the Supreme Court of Ohio. "Max is an extremely valued legal resource in the profession. His record of service to the bar and the community is lengthy and impressive," said Capital Law Dean Steven C. Bahls. "Capital Law School is proud of his accomplishments and the impact his work has had on improving the criminal justice system in Ohio."
