Chief Justice Moyer to Welcome New Students

August 16, 2002

Student Orientation for the incoming class will begin Thursday, August 22, 2002 at 5:30 p.m. in Mees Hall on Capital University's main campus in Bexley. This year's Opening Convocation will feature The Honorable Thomas Moyer, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio, who will welcome Capital's 260 new students into the legal profession. Justice Moyer will participate in Capital Law School's tradition of presenting gavels to the new students as a way of instilling a greater sense of ethics and professionalism as they begin the study of law.

This year's class was selected from a pool of nearly 1,200 applicants. One-half of the new students are women, approximately 13 percent represent minority ethnic groups, and they come to Capital Law School from more than 100 undergraduate institutions.

"We are extremely excited about the academic strength of this year's class, as well as the variety of experience and backgrounds they bring to our student body," says Linda Mihely, Assistant Dean of Admission & Financial Aid.

"This academic year will be an exciting one," said Dean Steven C. Bahls.  He points to the strength of the student body, the continued success of the moot court teams, the addition of several outstanding faculty members, the expansion of the legal clinic, and the healthy demand for Capital graduates by legal and business employers.

Orientation for new students runs August 22-24, 2002 Classes start Monday, August 26.
