
Capital Law School Welcomes New FacultyAugust 21, 2002 Capital University Law School welcomes four new distinguished faculty members this academic year. They are Danshera Cords, Rachel M. Janutis, Jagdeep S. Bhandari, and Vincent I. Holzhall "Capital's academic strategic plan calls for the improvement of the student/faculty ratio and enhancing our academic program with new courses," said Dean Steven C. Bahls. "The addition of our new faculty members helps us address these issues and provides us the opportunity to expand our course offerings." Danshera Cords has joined the Capital University law faculty as a full-time assistant professor of law. Before coming to Capital, she served as an attorney-advisor to Judge Maurice B. Foley of the U.S. Tax Court in Washington, D.C. While obtaining her LL.M. in Taxation at New York University School of Law, Cords interned with the State and Local Tax Group at KPMG, LLP in New York City. She practiced law in Seattle, Washington and was an active member of the Washington State Bar Association, serving on both the Electronic Communications Committee and the Editorial Advisory Board. Cords also holds degrees from the University of Washington and Seattle University School of Law. She teaches Partnership Taxation, Corporate Taxation, and Mergers and Acquisitions. Rachel M. Janutis has joined the Capital University law faculty as a full-time assistant professor of law. Most recently, she was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Illinois College of Law where she taught Remedies; Civil Procedure; Administrative Law; and Federal Courts. Janutis served as a law clerk for The Hon. Harlington Wood, Jr., of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She practiced with the Chicago law firm of Winston & Strawn where her practice focused primarily on commercial litigation matters, including antitrust litigation, contract disputes, business torts, and products liability. She also represented juveniles in delinquency and abuse and neglect proceedings on a pro bono basis. Janutis is co-author of the new course book Cases and Problems on Remedies 3d ed. published this year by Foundation Press. Janutis holds a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University and a Juris Doctor from University of Illinois College of Law. She teaches Civil Procedure, Remedies and Complex Litigation. Jagdeep S. Bhandari is a visiting professor of law at Capital for the 2002-03 academic year. He comes from the Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville where he has taught for the past four years. A former Professor of Economics, he has worked for the International Monetary Fund and has practiced law with the Pittsburgh firms of Goldberg and Kamin and Reed Smith Shaw & McClay. Bhandari served as advisor to The Honorable John Flaherty, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. He has published extensively in both law and economics and his articles have appeared in professional journals throughout the world. He is the author six books, including recent books published by MIT Press and Cambridge University Press. He is currently engaged in writing two books in the area of international economic law. Bhandari obtained his Ph.D. from Southern Methodist University, a J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law, and an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center. At Capital, he teaches Immigration Law, Secured Transactions, Law and Economics, Commercial Paper, and Evidence. Vincent I. Holzhall has joined Capital as a new Legal Research and Writing Faculty member. He previously taught Legal Research & Writing and Introduction to Advocacy at the University of Illinois College of Law. Prior to that, Holzhall was an associate in the Chicago law firm of Lord, Bissell & Brook where he practiced commercial litigation, focusing on complex litigation, class actions and bankruptcy matters. Professor Holzhall also served as a law clerk to The Hon. Benjamin K. Miller of the Illinois Supreme Court. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts; he holds an M.A. and M. Phil. from Columbia University and a J.D. from University of Illinois College of Law. Holzhall teaches Legal Research & Writing I, II, and Legal Drafting Practicum. |
