December 2000

On December 5, 2000, Professor Mike Distelhorst spoke at the Annual Legal Ethics and Professionalism Program of the Columbus Bar Association.

November 2000

On November 30, Prof. Max Kravitz joined Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Burt W. Griffin and Case Western Reserve University Law School Professor Lewis Katz to present "Professionalism and Ethics in Criminal Practice" at a seminar on Ohio Felony Sentencing Laws.

On November 17, 2000, Professor Janet Blocher, director of Capital's Legal Research and Writing Program, spoke on effective writing techniques for medical negligence cases at the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers' Continuing Legal Education seminar.

On November 16, 2000, Prof. Mike Distelhorst served as a speaker for the Faith and Law Program held at Trinity Lutheran Seminary.

October 2000

On October 30, Prof. Susan Looper-Friedman and Assistant Attorney General David Gormley debated the Ohio State Motto case before a group of teachers at the Ohio Center for Law Related Education's annual law and citizenship conference.

On October 21, Prof. Susan Looper-Friedman was a speaker and panelist at the ACLU of Ohio's annual conference "Acting on Principle." 

On October 20, Dean Steve Bahls delivered the President-elect's keynote address at the Annual Meeting of the American Agricultural Law Association Meeting in St. Louis. He also made a presentation on dealing with inquiries from the agricultural press.

On October 14, Prof. Max Kravitz and Capital Law School alum Mr. Sam Weiner made a presentation on Pretrial Discovery and Preparation at the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Annual Superstar Seminar in Athens, Ohio.

On October 14, 2000, Adjunct Prof. Chris McNeil presented the program "Courtroom Security Issues for Administrative Law Judges," at the 2000 Annual Conference of the National Association of Administrative Law Judges in Albany, New York. McNeil also presented the program: "Technology in Administrative Adjudications." 

On October 8, 2000, Prof. Distelhorst was one of the speakers for the Ethics, Professionalism, and Substance Abuse Program of the Columbus Bar Association's Probate and Estate section.

September 2000

Professor Susan Gilles made a presentation on the recent United States Supreme Court term to Ohio judges as part of a program sponsored by the Ohio Judicial College.

Professor David Mayer participated in a roundtable discussion of Jean Yarbrough's book American Virtues: Thomas Jefferson on the Character of a Free People at the American Political Science Association annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

Professor David Mayer spoke on "Judicial Tyranny in Ohio" to the Ohio Chamber of Commerce in Columbus.

August 2000

On August 29, 2000, Prof. Mike Distelhorst spoke on the subject of "Business and Professional Ethics" to the Society of Registered Securities Professionals, in conjunction with the National Academy of Securities Professionals.

July 2000

At the 2000 American Bar Association Annual Meeting in New York, Dean Steve Bahls made a presentation to the Law Student Division of the ABA about how law student organizations can most effectively work with the law school administration.

On July 9, 2000, Adjunct Prof. Chris McNeil was a panelist on "Improving Public Trust and Confidence in Administrative Adjudications," at the Annual Meeting of the American Bar Association, New York City.

On July 7, 2000, Prof. Mike Distelhorst spoke on the subject of "Ethics and the Professional Advisor" for The Catholic Foundation.

Prof. Dennis Hirsch  presented an article at the July meeting of the Central States Legal Colloquium, a gathering of selected younger legal scholars in the Midwest at which the participants read and critiqued each others' draft articles.

Professor David Mayer gave a two-part lecture on "The Intellectual Foundations of American Constitutionalism" and spoke about "The Thomas Jefferson - Sally Hemings Myth and the Politicization of American History" at The Objectivist Center's 11th annual Summer Seminar at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

June 2000

Dean Bahls participated in a panel discussion of law school deans regarding the role of the religiously affiliated law school, at the Annual Meeting of the Association of Religiously Affiliated Law Schools in New York.

On June 7, 2000, Prof. Mike Distelhorst was a panelist for the Columbus Bar Association's Ethics Program for Future Bar Leaders.

May, 2000

Dean Steve Bahls participated in and moderated a discussion of multidisciplinary practice at the Ohio State Bar Association's Wealth Transfer Seminar in Columbus.

On May 19, 2000, Professor Mike Distelhorst served as Program Planner for the Ethics, Professionalism, and Substance Abuse Program at the Ohio State Bar Association’s Annual Convention.

On May 17, 2000 Adjunct Professor Chris McNeil made a presentation during a program on "Managing Hearings, Developing the Record, and Writing Decisions for Administrative Law Judges," for the American Bar Association, National Conference of Administrative Law Judges, and Wisconsin Bar Association, Madison, Wisconsin.

Professor Lance Tibbles made a presentation on "Partial Birth Abortion, Public Policy, & Regulation of Physician's Clinical Judgment in the Age of Managed Care" at Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law.

Dean Bahls presented the results of the Capital University Law School poll on racial diversity in law schools at the regional meeting of the National Bar Association in Columbus.

April, 2000

Members of the Legal Research and Writing Department provided legal writing consulting services to the attorneys in the Columbus Region of the Defense Logistics Agency this past spring. Professors Risa Lazaroff, Chris McNeil, Susan Simms, Christine Lippe, and Janet Blocher participated in this effort. Legal Writing Professors Lazaroff, McNeil, and Simms also led a Continuing Legal Education Presentation, "Effective Writing Styles, Persuasive Writing Techniques, and Professionalism in Written Presentations", at the law school in July for the Defense Logistics Agency attorneys.

On April 26, Adjunct Professor Chris McNeil was a panelist on the program "Findings of Fact and Application of Law and Regulations," for the USDA National Appeals Division, San Diego, California.

On April 5 and April 12, 2000, Professor Mike Distelhorst and Leon McCorkle, Jr., Esq. jointly presented programs on Revised Article 9 of the UCC for the Ohio State Bar Association CLE Institute in Columbus and Cleveland.

On April 15, 2000, Professor Mike Distelhorst joined with Scott Mote, Esq. to present an Ethics, Professionalism, and Substance Abuse Program for Capital University Law School alumni.

Professor Dennis Hirsch delivered a speech at the Capital Law Review Symposium on Second Generation Environmental Policy and the Law entitled: "Second Generation Environmental Policy: Micro-Chip Environmentalism?"

February, 2000

Dean Steve Bahls moderated a discussion of law school deans about the impact of multidisciplinary practice on legal education at the Mid-year meeting of the American Bar Association in Dallas.

Dean Steven Bahls presented a discussion about barriers to diversity at the Ohio State Bar Association Racial Diversity Conference in Columbus.

January, 2000

On January 26, Professor David Mayer lectured on "The False Premises of Antitrust Law: Why Ohio Should Abandon the Microsoft Antitrust Suit," at the Buckeye Institute's winter legislative policy breakfast in Columbus.

On January 6, Professor David Mayer presented a paper, "Liberty of Contract: A Reinterpretation of `Lochner Era' Jurisprudence," at the Federalist Society Faculty Division Conference in Washington, D.C.
