Thomas C. Brown

As a member of Capital’s Legal Research and Writing faculty, Professor Brown teaches in the third year legal writing program. Prior to joining Capital University Law School, Professor Brown was the Law Director of the City of Lakewood, Ohio. Previously, he was Chief of the Civil Division of the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office and a Managing and Senior Trial Attorney for Cigna Insurance Company. Additionally, he has served as legal counsel to the Cleveland Metro Parks System, maintained a private practice, is a former City Councilman of the City of Lakewood, and held a position as Assistant Prosecutor for the City of Lakewood.

Professor Brown brings diverse experience in employment, insurance, and governmental affairs to the classroom. He has experience trying wrongful death, product liability, and all forms of premises and auto liability cases.

Brown has been an active member of the Ohio State Bar Association since 1976 and an active member of the Cleveland Bar. He has acted as a chair of the Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court Arbitration Panels and was special counsel to a legislative committee for the hearings on medical insurance.

Professor Brown founded and served as the first chair for Lakewood Meals-on-Wheels, the first program of its kind in Northeast Ohio. He also chaired the City of Lakewood’s Board of Zoning Appeals and Civil Service Commission and was a member of Lakewood Hospital’s Board of Trustees and the Lakewood Board of Education Taskforce on Excellence in Education.
