Jack
A. Guttenberg took office as the new dean of Capital University Law School
on July 1, 2004. He comes to Capital from Cleveland-Marshall College of
Law, Cleveland State University, where he served as associate dean since
1997 and a professor since 1980. He teaches criminal law, legal profession,
trial advocacy, law practice management and pre-trial practice.
Dean Guttenberg’s most recent scholarship and service have focused
on ethics and professional responsibility. He is currently a member of
the Ohio Supreme Court Task Force on Rules of Professional Conduct; counsel
to the Ohio Supreme Court Rules Advisory Committee, Criminal Rules Subcommittee;
and member of the OSBA Legal Ethics and Professional Conduct Committee.
He has been an expert witness in more than 30 cases on issues of professional
responsibility, and he is co-author of The Law of Professional Responsibility
in Ohio and 1998 Supplement with Lloyd B. Snyder.
Before entering academia, Dean Guttenberg was an assistant public defender
in Ann Arbor, Michigan and was an associate at the firm Burgess and Burgess,
in Detroit. He received a B.A., with honors, in sociology from the University
of Michigan and a J.D., magna cum laude, from Wayne State University School
of Law in 1976.
