Annual Alumni Golf Outing Set for September 20

University Law School Alumni Association and the Office of
Development and Alumni Relations will host the 2nd Annual
Alumni Golf Outing Monday, September 20, 2004.
"Alumni
can play golf and win great prizes while supporting the Law
School," said Assistant Director of Alumni Relations Ann Snider.
"Last year's event was a lot of fun and we're hoping for a
big turn-out this year."
At
the golf outing, participants will sign-in and get their boxed
lunches from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. The four-person golf scramble
will begin with shotgun-start at 1:00 pm. Dinner and awards
will follow the event.
Players
registering by September 1 will receive the early bird fee
of $275. After September 1, the cost per golfer is $300. Space
is limited to 128 golfers. The deadline to register for the
outing is September 13.
From
each player fee, $150 will go toward scholarships for law
students.

Basic
Mediation Training

Enroll in a two-day mediation training designed to teach the basic
skills used by an effective mediator. This training combines exercises,
videos, short lectures, written materials, group discussions and
role plays. It is interdisciplinary and developed to be useful for
people with diverse backgrounds and experience levels. There are

Becoming
a More Effective Mediator

This training focuses on enhancing your mediation skills. It is
developed to improve your abilities to identify, frame and prioritize
issues to be mediated;
distinguish between presenting and underlying issues; understand
obstacles to generating alternative solutions; use multiple methods
of generating alternatives; and assist the parties in selecting
clear and practical solutions. In addition, Becoming a More Effective
Mediator teaches mediators to understand why, how and when to use

Succeeding
in the Business of Mediation

This half-day training program is designed to enhance a mediator's
ability to prepare for and conduct a mediation process. The training
helps you identify those factors that must be explored before the
actual mediation commences and those that influence the potential
for a successful outcome. Special emphasis is placed on exploring
whether the dispute is ready for mediation and whether the parties
are ready to begin the mediation process. Issues such as the parties'
authority to mediate, selection of the appropriate mediator, location
of the mediation and costs of the mediation process are all explored.

Mediation Ethics is a complex topic because it involves various
mediator standards of practice, numerous professional codes of conduct
and standards of ethics and a variety of state laws and court rules.

Handling
Workspace Conflicts

conflicts: It is a two-day workshop examining conflicts that create
disruption in the workplace. The seminar focuses on analysis of
workplace conflict and building capacity for effectively preventing
disputes, de-escalating conflict situations and resolving problems.
