Loan Repayment Assistance Program

Capital University Law School recognizes the challenge to graduates with large law school debt who wish to serve the public.

As the cost of law school continuously and significantly increases, the salaries of public interest and public sector jobs remains the same. Recognizing our graduates' commitment to public service, Capital University Law School (Law School) created this loan repayment assistance program (LRAP) to support those alumni.

While the rewards of public service can prove immeasurable, the salaries are easily quantified. The LRAP endeavors to maximize the public interest salaries by reducing the significant monthly burden of law school loan repayment. Initially, the program's goal is to reduce the debt burden for graduates who choose to practice law in the public's interest. In future years, the program will encourage students to commit to a career in public interest law.

The Loan Repayment Assistance Program is solely funded through the Loan Repayment Assistance Endowment funds given by generous alumni and friends of Capital University Law School. Donations to the LRAP can be designated to the annual award or to the endowment fund which will provide a steady source of funding for the LRAP. Due to the current size of our endowment there is a finite amount of money that can be awarded.

Awards of $1,200 per year (in four $300 installments) are available to graduates of the Law School. LRAP funding is finite. There is no guarantee that every eligible applicant will be funded in a given year.

On average, approximately 25% of Capital law graduates enter the public sector each year and are carrying more than $70,000 in law school student loan debt.   To contribute to the LRAP Fund to assist more alumni who are serving in the public sector, you may give online or contact Sherri Wilmoth, assistant director of Annual Giving.
