Serving the Columbus Bar Association: Capital Law School Alumni on the Board of Governors

At the Columbus Bar Association's annual meeting in June, Kathleen M. Trafford, L'77, was sworn in as president of the Board of Governors. Joining her, were Capital Law alumni Keith W. Schneider, L'89, who was elected to the board for the first time, and David T. Patterson, L'77, who was re-elected to a second term. Sitting board members include Mark C. Petrucci, L'90. Also, Kisty J. Swope, L'86, retired from the board after serving the maximum two terms of office.

1971

Mike Distelhorst has published an article entitled, “Clinical Experience Essential Part of Legal Education” with Jason M. Dolin in the May/June 2008 edition of the OSBA Magazine, Ohio Lawyer.

1973

Frederick Mills, a partner in the Columbus office of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, has been re-elected to serve another three-year term on the Board of Directors for the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.

1977

Gary Dumm was appointed as the new municipal court judge in Pickaway County, OH, by Gov. Ted Strickland.

David Patterson was elected by the Columbus Bar to join the 2008-09 Board of Governors.

Robert H. Schottenstein was named Builder 100 Executive of the Year for 2007 by Builder Magazine. The homebuilding industry trade publication presents the award to the person it believes had the biggest impact on his or her company's fortunes during the year. Schottenstein is CEO/Chairman of the Board/President of M/I Homes, Inc.


Athornia Steele, '74, L'77, has been named dean of Shepard Broad Law Center of Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His tenure there begins August 2008. [ More ]

1979

James C. Banks was elected to serve as president of the Tallahasse Bar Association for 2008-2009.

Kathleen Trafford was installed as president of the Columbus Bar Association at the annual meeting June 6.

1981

Mark LeWinter was honored as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer for 2008 by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Magazine. The publication indentifies attorneys "who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement."

1983

Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner received the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in recognition of her work to correct Ohio's election system. Secretary of State Brunner was the 2008 Capital Law School commencement speaker and was awarded an honorary degree during the commencement ceremony.

1989

Keith W. Schneider was elected by the Columbus Bar to join the 2008-09 Board of Governors.

1991

Thilo C. Agthe was named a partner at the New York law firm of Wuersch & Gering LLP.

1994

Karen Hammond was named a partner with Porter Wright Morris and Arthur, LLP.

Adam C. Miller was appointed as the US Army's Command Judge Advocate for the 643rd Regional Support Group.

1999

Melanie Martin-Jones was named a partner with Porter Wright Morris and Arthur, LLP.

2005

Benjamin B. Fortkamp has joined Foundation Title Agency, Columbus office, as general counsel.

2007

Stacey L. James joined the staff of Coffman Law Offices as an associate attorney.

Jason Owen won the Republician primary for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, 3rd District.

W. Cory Phillips was named an associate with the Cleveland office of Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., LPA.

In Memoriam

Aaron Brookhart, a first-year evening student, passed away in May 2008. Contributions may be made to the to the Aaron J. Brookhart Memorial Scholarship Fund, Charter One Bank, 34601 Ridge Road, Unit 9, Willoughby, OH 44094.

Anthony "Tony" P. Georgetti, L'85 , age 47, passed away Friday, May 23, 2008. Georgetti practiced law serving the surrounding Toledo area. Most recently he was employed with Steven Taylor at Taylor Cadillac. He was their in-house attorney and Vice President of legal affairs.

Donald C. Schumacher, L'64, age 61 passed away Friday, June 6, 2008. He was a criminal defense attorney and public defender for the past 34 years. In February 2008, his las criminal defense trial was his 50th death penalty case.
