Interview Process

Interviews

Having the opportunity to interview with a judge is an honor and a worthwhile experience in itself, even if you don't get the position. From the hundreds of applications received by the judge, he or she will typically only select a handful of individuals to interview. Be prepared to discuss your interests and qualifications (anything on your resume is fair game) and your reasons for wanting to clerk for that judge. Research the judge and the court before the interview. Courts do not reimburse travel costs; you will be responsible for travel costs while interviewing in another city or state.

Accepting an Offer

Unlike other employment situations, you should not play one clerkship offer against another. If a judge offers you a position, you are expected to accept the first offer. This requires you to make sure you are only applying to judges for whom you wish to work and in locations where you are willing to live. Once you accept an offer, you should immediately notify all other judges with whom you have interviewed.
