Applying as a Transfer Student

Students in good standing who attend another law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) may apply to transfer to Capital University Law School. Transfer applications are accepted year-round. There is no application deadline.

Application Pre-Requisites

  1. Transfer applicants must have completed the required first-year curriculum at another ABA approved law school prior to transferring.
  2. Transfer applicants must possess a 2.75 cumulative law school grade point average.
  3. Law school transcript must reflect completed coursework. No transfer admission decision will be rendered if transcript grades are pending or law school course work is in progress.

Application Instructions

  1. Complete and submit Application.
  2. Submit non-refundable $40 Application Fee.
  3. Submit a Letter of Good Standing.
    • The letter of good standing must be sent directly from the dean or registrar of home law school.
  4. Submit Official Law School Transcript.
    • Official transcript must reflect performance in all law school course work attempted.
    • Official transcript must be sent directly from home law school.
  5. Submit an Essay that discusses background, goals, and reason(s) for interest in completing a legal education at Capital University Law School.
  6. Submit one Letter of Recommendation from a member of the law faculty who can comment on the applicant's performance and potential.
  7. Update LSDAS Subscription with the Law School Admission Council.
    • The Office of Admission will request an official copy of the LSDAS report.

Capital will accept credit for most courses in which students have received at least a "C" (2.0) or comparable grade.

Courses taken at other law schools and accepted for credit at Capital are not computed into the student’s cumulative grade point average.

Transfer students must complete no fewer than 45 semester hours at Capital and must maintain a cumulative grade average of "C" (2.0) for work undertaken at Capital.
