J.D./Master of Theological Studies

"Theologically trained professionals in faith-based organizations and in other workplace settings embody the truth that our vocation, as persons of faith, extends into all aspects of life. This JD/MTS degree program provides an invaluable opportunity to pursue that truth."

Dr. James M. Childs, Jr. is professor of systematic theology at Trinity Lutheran Seminary. He has taught ethics at the seminary since he joined the faculty in 1978, and served as academic dean from 1981 to 200.

The JD/Master of Theological studies program is tailor-made for those who want to integrate a law degree with a solid spiritual grounding and understanding of religious theology. Capital University Law School joins with Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio to offer the JD/MTS program. This combined degree provides the opportunity to explore the rich historical relationships between the theological and legal traditions so deeply embedded in our western culture. The program also prepares graduates to work in a variety of religiously-based settings dealing with church administration and governance matters, public policy involving complicated ethical and social issues, or church foundations helping individuals understand the complexities surrounding planned giving.

Students in the combined degree program complete both degrees with a substantial reduction in total credit hours.

Students enrolled in the Seminary or the Law School may seek the assistance of the program advisors on both faculties. Prospective students may request additional information about the joint degree program from the Capital University Law School Admission Office:
