The following are annual Continuing Education Courses (CLE) offered by Capital University Law School.

In addition to these annual CLE events, the Law School offers various topical and timely CLE courses. You are encouraged to visit the Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on Continuing Legal Education's online database to see all current and approved courses.

The John E. Sullivan Lecture

The John E. Sullivan Lecture was established in honor of Professor Emeritus John Edward Sullivan, a dedicated teacher and scholar who was appointed to the Law School faculty in 1953 and who also served as acting dean and academic dean during his tenure. The Sullivan Lecture is presented each academic year by a distinguished legal scholar who addresses a matter of significance to the Law School and to the greater legal community.

The Schweickart Lecture in Criminal Defense

The Schweickart Lecture in Criminal Defense is named after Gary Schweickart, L’74, who according to peers, epitomized the criminal defense lawyer. He revered the Bill of Rights above all other things and demanded that his clients be treated fairly and with respect. The Schweickart Lecture is presented each academic year by a criminal defense practitioner or legal scholar who addresses a matter of significance to the criminal defense bar.

Labor & Employment Law Association Annual Continuing Legal Education Seminar 

The Labor & Employment Law Association (LELA) sponsors an annual continuing legal education (CLE) seminar covering varying cutting-edge and important topics in labor and employment law. The speakers represent leaders in the profession and are often Capital University Law School alumni. Proceeds from the event cover nominal program costs with the majority of fees going towards a book scholarship for a current LELA student. 

Distelhorst Lecture on Professionalism and Ethics 

The Distelhorst Lecture on Professionalism & Ethics is an event that serves as a keynote event during the Law School’s annual Professionalism Week. This lecture is named in Professor Distelhorst’s honor for his many years of service to the Law School and legal profession, and for his life-long commitment to professionalism and ethics.

Wells Conference on Child Welfare & Adoption Law

The Wells Conference on Child Welfare and Adoption Law was established in honor of N. Douglas Wells, a dedicated teacher and cherished faculty member of the Capital University Law School from 1989 through 2004. Professor Wells, whose research and teaching focused on family law, helped to establish the National Center for Adoption Law and Policy, now known as the Family and Youth Law Center.

An annual event focusing on current topics in compliance.

Center for Dispute Resolution

The Center for Dispute Resolution's mission is to serve as a resource for and to be engaged in teaching, training, experimentation, application, development, and research with regard to the processes that are available to resolve disputes, with particular emphasis on negotiation and mediation.

CDR provides mediation training, conflict resolution skills courses and mediation services. Contact CDR if you are interested in attending one of the scheduled trainings, developing a specialized training tailored to your organization's needs or hiring a mediator.
